Plant in dormant season late fall (October-November) to early winter (December-January). *There are a couple of varieties of plums, be sure to get the self-fertile, or plant more then 1 plum tree for ones that cross pollinate. Plum trees do no like soil that are more alkaline based, and need well draining.
Can vary from late summer (August) to late fall (October-November)
Spring time pruning can be done but do not prune too many at one time so that it is not prone to infection or disease. Early summer(June): Thin the fruits and remove then ones that are too close to each other. If there are too many fruits then it will stay small. Remove some (not too much) so that the others can grow. *Do not prune in dormant season (Fall -September-November)
Feeding: Sulfate of potash (1/2 oz/sq.yd.) in Winter (January-February); Nitrogen fertilizer (2 oz/sq.yd.) in spring (March-April) ; Every 3rd year apply superphosphate (2oz/sq.yd.) in late winter (January-February) ; every year apply organic mulch during spring season (March-April) Watering: Require more water than apples do. They need more watering during summer season (June-August) when it is dry.
In ground but can be grown in a container (be sure it is not pot-bounded)
